Ask a newer Moorpark resident what there is to do in July and you will get a shrug and a scroll through Instagram. Ask someone who has lived here through a few summers and you will get a geography lesson. The calendar looks scattered on the city website. On the ground, it is not scattered at all.
Moorpark's summer runs on two anchors sitting less than two miles apart. Daytime and family programming clusters at Arroyo Vista Community Park on the south side. Evening and adult social life clusters in The Alley off Zachary Street, a few blocks from historic High Street. Once you see the split, the rest of the calendar makes sense.
Every free public event the city runs in summer lands at the same address: Arroyo Vista Park at 4550 Tierra Rejada Rd., with the closest parking in lots D and E, gates open at 5:00 and music starting at 6:00 p.m. That single line explains why the park's south lots fill up on Saturdays and why the Tierra Rejada corridor gets slow around 4:30.

The details residents wish they knew before the first show: bring lawn chairs or blankets for the grass, food vendors are on site but outside food and beverages are welcome including beer and wine but no hard alcohol, and no canopies or umbrellas are allowed within 100 feet of the stage. The canopy rule is the one that catches people. If you want shade, you sit further back than you probably want to.
Movies in the Park uses the same park and the same logic, but on a different rhythm. All movies are held at Arroyo Vista Park and are free, staged behind the rec center building with closest parking in lots A and B, gates opening one hour before showtime and movies beginning at dusk. Summer dates are Saturday June 13, July 11, August 8, and September 12, with an October 10 date carrying the routine into fall. Between concerts, movies, and the August 1-2 Summer Camp Out, Arroyo Vista is booked almost every Saturday from June through September.
Fridays belong to a smaller, quieter routine. Skate Night runs monthly through the warm season on June 19, July 17, August 14, September 18, and October 16. It is the kind of low-key programming that only shows up on the calendar of someone who lives here. It is also the reason locals treat Friday as a soft night and save the effort for Saturday.
The one exception is the Friday that isn't small. The 3rd of July Fireworks Extravaganza on Friday, July 3, 2026 shifts the whole week. If you are planning around Independence Day this year, plan around Friday, not Saturday. The parade weekend feel that people expect on the 4th is happening the night before.
Now the second anchor. A few blocks from High Street, tucked off Zachary, is a warehouse-industrial cluster that has quietly become the reason Moorpark has a real Friday and Saturday night. Enegren Brewing sits in The Alley, which features a collaborative selection of food and drink offerings including Lucas Sellers Winery, California Coffee Republic, The Craft House 805 and Fire & Vice Restaurant, which serves wood-fired Neapolitan pizza, Bavarian pretzels and schnitzel.
Enegren is the anchor tenant. The independently-owned craft brewery was founded in 2010 by three friends, Chris and Matt Enegren and Joe Nascenzi, starting as a self-taught project in the dorm rooms of Loyola Marymount University and growing into a 15-barrel Ventura County commercial brewery focused on German-inspired beers with a heavy emphasis on lagers. Fifteen years in, the tasting room at 444 Zachary Street runs late enough on Friday and Saturday to catch the concert crowd walking over from Arroyo Vista. The pattern to watch: the parking lot is quiet at 5, packed by 8, and thinning by 10.
The cluster works because none of the businesses compete with each other. Coffee in the morning at California Coffee Republic. Wine tasting at Lucas Sellers. Beer and pretzels at Enegren. Pizza and schnitzel at Fire & Vice. The Craft House 805 for handmade goods and periodic markets. It is a single evening on foot, not four separate trips.
Here is the detail that separates a Moorpark resident from a Ventura County tourist. The Enegren Brewing Beer Hall is located near downtown Moorpark, just a few blocks from historic High Street and well within walking distance of the Moorpark Metrolink station.
That single sentence changes how the evening half works. Ventura County is not a walkable place. You drive to dinner, you drive home from dinner, and you plan accordingly. The Alley is the rare exception where a Metrolink rider from Simi Valley, Camarillo, or Union Station can step off the train, walk to a tasting room, and step back on. For residents, it means the summer evenings on Zachary are the one part of the county where you can genuinely leave the car parked.
It also explains why the businesses on this block program events the way they do. A 5K Fun Run at Enegren Brewing on May 30 as part of the 2026 CA Brewery Running Series is not the sort of thing you host in a spot people have to drive to. It works because the block absorbs foot traffic.
If you are new to Moorpark, or you have been here a while and never quite pieced it together, the summer weekend reads like this:
Saturday afternoon at Arroyo Vista for the free concert or movie. Walk or short drive to The Alley on Zachary as the sun drops. Sunday morning coffee at California Coffee Republic. Repeat.
The Friday layer adds Skate Night once a month and an occasional Enegren event. The 3rd of July, the Summer Camp Out on August 1-2, and Moorpark Country Days on October 3 are the outliers that break the pattern and are worth blocking on the calendar the moment the city posts them.
The pattern extends into fall in a way that surprises new residents. October brings the same rotation on the same days, ending in Haunted High Street on Saturday, October 31 and the Apricot Slam Pickleball Tournament on November 14 and 15, 2026, Holiday on High Street on Saturday, December 5, Breakfast with Santa on December 12 and 13, and a Holiday Movie Marathon on Saturday, December 19. High Street takes over from Arroyo Vista once the evenings cool off, and the daytime anchor shifts north by about a mile.
The 3rd Annual Moorpark Apricot Festival and Art Fair, held Saturday, May 9, 2026 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Moorpark's Historic High Street with art and craft vendors, food trucks, apricot offerings, live music, dance performances, family-friendly activities and animal shows is the spring version of the same idea. The city keeps returning to two staging grounds. Once you know which one is active on a given weekend, the calendar reads itself.

The routine is generous, it is free most weekends, and it is walkable in the one corner where walkability is possible. That is a different kind of amenity than a downtown of a bigger city, and it is one of the reasons long-term residents stay.
